garlic cottage cheese naan

Freshly prepared garlic cottage cheese naan

Garlic cottage cheese naan is a soft, fluffy Indian flatbread stuffed with spiced paneer and infused with aromatic garlic, perfect as a savory side or snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tbsp plain yogurt
  • 2 tbsp oil, divided
  • 1 cup crumbled paneer (cottage cheese)
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 1/4 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Butter or ghee for brushing

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water. Sprinkle yeast over and let it activate for 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add yogurt, 1 tbsp oil, and the yeast mixture. Knead into a soft dough, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
  3. In another bowl, mix paneer, minced garlic, cumin powder, red chili powder, and chopped cilantro.
  4. Divide the dough into equal balls. Roll each ball into a small circle.
  5. Place a spoonful of the paneer mixture in the center of the circle, fold the edges over to seal the filling, and gently roll again to flatten slightly.
  6. Heat a skillet or tawa over medium heat. Cook each naan until bubbles form, then flip and cook the other side, brushing with butter or ghee while cooking.
  7. Repeat for all naans and serve hot.

Notes

For extra flavor, brush the finished naan with garlic butter and serve with mint chutney or raita.
