  • 6 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/3 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a medium baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, ground ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt until well coated.
  3. Transfer the apple mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine melted butter, rolled oats, chopped nuts (if using), and maple syrup. Mix well to form the topping.
  5. Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
  7. Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.
  8. Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a splash of vanilla extract to the oat topping or sprinkle extra chopped nuts on top before baking.
