Puff Pastry Caprese

Puff Pastry Caprese is a delicious Italian-inspired appetizer combining flaky puff pastry with fresh mozzarella, ripe tomatoes, and fragrant basil for a perfect bite-sized treat.

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 4 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • 2 medium tomatoes, thinly sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Balsamic glaze, for drizzling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and cut into 4 equal squares.
  3. Place pastry squares on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Layer slices of mozzarella, tomato, and basil leaves on each square.
  5. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
  6. Brush the edges of the puff pastry with beaten egg for a golden finish.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden and puffed.
  8. Remove from oven and drizzle with balsamic glaze if desired.
  9. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

For added flavor, sprinkle a pinch of dried oregano or a few red pepper flakes before baking.
