Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium cauliflower, cut into bite-sized florets
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 3 tablespoons gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cold water, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until smooth to create the batter.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat until hot.
  3. Dip each cauliflower floret into the batter, coating it thoroughly, then carefully place it in the hot oil.
  4. Fry the cauliflower in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes per batch. Drain on paper towels.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine gochujang, soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil. Mix well to create the spicy sauce.
  6. Toss the fried cauliflower florets in the spicy sauce until evenly coated.
  7. Transfer to a serving plate and garnish with toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy your spicy Korean cauliflower!

Notes

For an extra crunch, double fry the cauliflower by frying once until light golden, letting them cool, then frying again until deep golden and crispy before tossing in the sauce.
